Comment on NEXUS Card Holders To Be Able To Line Jump At Pearson International by DAvid S

The first comment is incorrect - there are separate security checkpoints, with separate rules (e.g. you must remove your shoes at the transborder security check, but optional for domestic), for domestic, trans-border and international flights from Terminal 1 at Pearson. The Nexus card will get you quickly thru US immigration and customs, especially on a Monday morning, but does nothing for you at the ensuing security checkpoint (on the other hand, if you are an AmEx gold cardholder...)
In Terminal 3, I recently took a domestic flight and the Nexus card got me escorted to the very front of the line at the security checkpoint. Hopefully this trial will get finalised, and the privelege of priority at the security checkpoints will be extended to Nexus members beyond just the domestic flights. It might be worth even more then!

Is that $150 per trip, or a one-time fee that will verify you as a low-risk traveller? The Nexus program, which was originally designed for frequent USA cross-border travellers is now accepted at most Canadian airport for any travel, including domestic flights. The Nexus card costs $50 for 5 years, and is a great time saver for frequent travellers!

Just to clarify, the Nexus priority line is only available at Toronto Pearson Terminal 1, and not at Terminal 3 (Pearson does not have a Terminal 2).

Also, having a Nexus card will streamline your travel to all destinations, not just domestic flights. If you are travelling to the USA, the Nexus card will shorten your customs/immigration time significantly, which is the primary purpose of the Nexus program. This is available in both Terminal 1 and 3.

And, in Toronto Pearson Terminal 1, the same security checkpoint is used for both domestic and international departures, so you can take advantage of the Nexus priority line at the security checkpoint, regardless of destination.

Yes, there is an extensive risk assessment during the application process, with fingerprints, iris scan, and criminal background checks, but for frequent travellers, $50 for 5 years of priority screening is a great deal!

Good to know... In that case, it would be nice to see some more competition coming out of the west. There are a few regional airlines, but nothing compared to the size of Porter. Prices rarely fluctuate over here. You may occasionally see a little bit of a discount, but nothing as significant as the deals we're seing in the east.

Air Canada and WestJet are only the followers in the war for Eastern Canada. The 20-30% discount promotions are always launched first by Porter Airlines, who operate out of Toronto Island Airport to Eastern Canada and N.E. USA. Air Canada and WestJet are quick to match the discounts, but only on the Eastern Canada/USA routes where they compete directly with Porter Airlines.

These deals can also be booked through any travel agency.
